What is Proton Workspace?

Proton Workspace is an encrypted business productivity suite that brings together email, calendar, documents, spreadsheets, file storage, video meetings, VPN, password management, and private AI under one account. It sits in the office-suite category, but its pitch is different from Google Workspace or Microsoft 365: instead of monetizing collaboration data, Proton positions the suite around end-to-end encryption and Swiss privacy protections. Teams that value confidentiality, compliance posture, and fewer vendors use it to replace a patchwork of separate tools with one privacy-first workspace. Proton says it serves more than 100,000 businesses and that its platform is used by organizations including the United Nations, the European External Action Service, and Formula 1.

Proton began in 2014 as a privacy-focused project from scientists who met at CERN, and the workspace is the latest step in a long expansion from secure email into a broader collaboration platform. What started as Proton Mail has grown into a suite that now includes Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meet, Pass, VPN, and Lumo, reflecting a move from personal privacy tools to a full business workspace for team collaboration.
